The Hunting Party is a 1971 American-British western film directed by Don Medford for Levy-Gardner-Laven and starring Oliver Reed, Gene Hackman, Candice Bergen, Simon Oakland and Ronald Howard. Melissa tries to shoot and stab Calder and to flee, each time in vain. After a cavalry patrol is ambushed by the Cheyenne, the two survivors, a soldier and a woman, must reach the safety of the nearest fort. Weak from heat and thirst, their horse dead, they stumble toward an inevitable fate. However, their extremely dangerous target decides to come after them. Top enforcer Nick Devlin is sent to straighten things out. Alone now, Calder and Melissa are driven out into the desert. A vicious Kansas City slaughterhouse owner and his hick family are having a bloody "beef" with the Chicago crime syndicate over profits from their joint illegal operations.
As Calder is dying Ruger kills Melissa.
A Spaghetti Western. Page 70 "The Italian composer was here last week to score "The Hunting Party", with Candice Burgen. When his own best friend, Doc (On his death bed, Hog Warren further angers Ruger by telling him Melissa is now Calder's woman.
In yet another ambush, Ruger sees for himself that Melissa, rather than trying to escape, leaps onto Calder's horse voluntarily to ride off with him. Melissa also stabs one, Hog Warren (Calder's men become upset to discover that they have kidnapped such a powerful man's wife, placing them in danger for no good reason.
Just because your on the right side of the law, doesn´t per se make you a good person. A ruthless rancher, and his gang, use extremely long range rifles to kill the men who kidnapped his infidel wife.
It´s a cool flick about an outlaw (Reed) who kidnappes rich farmers (Hackman) wife, but soon find himself attracted to his beatyfull hostage, while he finds himselv mercyless hunted by the enraged husband.
